Characteristics of Emerging Economies Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Today, some 30 countries are classified as "emerging markets" of the World Bank. Investor interest in these markets has grown significantly over time. During the first half of the 1990s, privatization and liberalization of the economy held by emerging market countries have substantially expanded set of countries with emerging securities markets to foreign investors, and thus made a strong and decisive impetus for portfolio investment in emerging markets. The purpose of this technical note is to describe some of the key characteristics of developing capital markets and to compare them with those developed and less developed and frontier markets.
