Capstone Project Case Study Solution

Internal organization communication

Internal organization communication has many approaches that range from various types of employee engagement, to the two ways channel of information sharing. In the simplest definition, internal communication refers to the method or methods that an organization uses to share information and to communicate with each other (Kanki, 2019). There are different methods that an organization can use to deliver within the business premise. Such practices include internal memos, telephone communication, reports, face to face communication and use of notice boards, among other forms, communication.

Scope of the project

Owing to the significance of effective internal organization communication, and the challenges currently faced in the Essex County College, a capstone project to fill in the communication gap is necessary. As an educational institution, effective communication is critical because communication is usually the primary instructional technique. In July 2017, the college fired a professor for allegedly failing to teach in Mass Communication and Popular Culture class (Ari, 2017). The college has faced challenges, especially in the communication between students and their tutors and faculty heads. Technological issues interfere with the effectiveness of internal interface within the institution. Following the case of the fired professor, and the concerns of the poor communication between faculty leadership and the student fraternity, this project is developed to bridge the gap.

The Initiation Stage of the Project

At the initiation stage, the limitations likely to be met during the project discourse were analyzed, and key stakeholders identified. Among the limiting factors identified included resistance to change from the administration, owing to the status quo. The expectations of all stakeholders at the end of the project were a primary consideration. Finally, team leadership was developed to steer the project.

Needs assessment

The type of needs analysis tool I would use is SMART, A measurement is the process of calculating the effectiveness of a process and the level of its achievement of the required result. An indicator is a mark which shows the level of effectiveness of the process which has some basic requirements. A measurement is an analysis of the result whereas an indicator is the mark of success or failure of that result. Measurement is done to achieve the indicated result. SMART:Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time manageable.

Imperatively, the need analysis refers to the some sort of activities with the learner in order to get to know their substantial needs. A good and deep understanding of the learner’ need would lead to the successful planning of course. The gap between student and teacher can be closed when the teacher adopts learner-centered approach, hence it would positively affect the learning experience of students. The better and effective communication between teacher and student could help in identifying effective learner centered practices in classroom and increasing motivation of students. The instructor can develop the relationships and adapt different strategies in order to better meet the learning needs of students without any need to sacrifice high learning expectations. Such type of response and expectation would allow tutor or instructor to help the students in overcoming strategic learning barriers. It is significantly important that the students are provided with the supportive learning environment that tend to maintain the balance classroom authority and power to increase the self-motivation, independence and responsibility of students on behalf of learner.

In addition to this, it is important to remove the expectation gap between instructor and students to create the positive learning environment. The improved communication leads students to better understand their responsibilities and roles and it can lead to better working relationship between student and instructor.

Scope of the Project

A research indicates that the effective communication between teacher and students will lead towards the different domains of the university or student life such as the curricular choices, governance of educational area, dynamics of class, improvement in facilities of institutions and understanding of rules and regulations of institution such as the safety policies, violence policies, conflict resolution policies and much more.

There are five key areas have been found to determine the scope of the project.

  1. Binding decision making
  2. Conflict resolution
  3. Knowledge construction
  4. Resolution in community problems
  5. And identity construction

Binding Decision Making:

One of the main scope of the effective communication between teachers and students is the influence of the students in decision making process which can only be develop through effective communication. The effective communication between teachers and students might lead towards the identification of needs and wants of students and by resolving them, the positive way of the institute will go in the market which turn towards an increase in the ratio of successful students in their practical lives. The positive point of institution will helps to attract more students in the market ultimately an increase in revenue and profits.

In order to implement effective communication between teachers and students, the management should create the possibility of students influence in the decision making of the governance of educational system, curricular and academic decisions such as the result sharing with students, student’s engagement in the class room, awareness about academic deadlines and class schedules etc.

When the students will participate in the analysis and resolution of education system in the institution then the problems in surrounding communities will be resolved and will not be problematic in any other context. The establishment of different policies in the institutions with the mutual understanding of students might lead to organize the effective functioning of rules and regulations in institution by the students.

Action plan and Survey evaluation tool

In this study, a qualitative research design is used. Due to the fact that this design is considered as the most appropriate one in order to answer the question of research. As it provides the researcher with the opportunity for analysis of response of students against different strategies of teaching within the classes of courses of MSL Program in context to evaluate the communication between them. This approach significantly supports the purpose of study as it allows the researcher for the determination of effective communication on the basis of response of learners and their outcomes. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for the collection of qualitative data which comprised open-ended questions. On the other hand, the study does not involve a control group. The outcomes of the research study that is to be conducted is based on following question:

  1. What kind of technological advancement improve the success rates of the course of developmental mathematics?
  2. What behavior of instructors in terms of teaching in appreciated by the students enrolled in the course of developmental mathematics?
  3. Which strategic plans of teaching adapted by instructors’ effects the completion rate of developmental mathematics course?
  4. Which strategies influence the learning behavior of students for the course of developmental mathematics?

The observation of classroom will be an unstructured observation as it provides flexibility between teacher and researcher for attending other events or activities that occur during class. Additionally, the unstructured observations are typically used for the collection of qualitative data due to the reason that they are free-flowing which allows the researcher and teacher for shifting of their concentration from one to the other event. The reason behind this observation is to find out the answer to the questions of research. Though, the instructors will complete the questionnaire after the observation of classroom which mainly based on two aspects. The first aspect will include the general information such as institution name, number of students, lesson time etc. The second one time record and consistent events.

  • The ability of teacher to handle the situation while a question is asked by student.
  • The style of an instructor on how to make them understand things well.
  • The use of teaching strategies during class.
  • Additional supportive material such as technology, guidebooks, worksheets etc.
  • The effect of students’ grouping during class activities.

The teaching in classroom is a complicated initiative that involves the role of different variables at play. The researcher will consider the variables that will significantly answer the research questions of the study. Though, the research’s main focus for the study is on effective strategies of instruction and instructor’s behavior through the collection of piloting data. This is an important aspect for determination of the things that were need to either include or exclude.

About two different surveys are involved in this study which includes the Measurement of Pre-Post Achievement and the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI). The LASSI refers to the inventory of self-report which is being used in higher learning institutions to assess the awareness among students regarding the study use and strategies of learning in relation to skill, will and self-regulation. (Brenna M. Wernersbach, 2014) The visible and covert thoughts, behaviors, attitudes, motivations, and beliefs are focused by inventory in relation to the learning in the educational settings of post-secondary education and training i.e. to be altered using the interventions of education.

The diagnostic and most prescriptive instrument used in this study is LASSI, as it allows students for the diagnosis of strengths and weaknesses as compared to other students. The conceptual changes comes when the focus of students shifts to the concepts that are accepted scientifically from a misconception. (Benjamin C. Heddy, 2018) It is an authoritative instrument in a manner that it gives feedback about different areas such as where the students are weak or they require improvements in their knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivation, and beliefs. (Rachel McCord, 2013)

The measurement of Pre-Post Achievement is focused on provision of approach to the students purposely for comparing, contrasting and reflecting their scores of pre and post LASSI. This tool is used for the collection of qualitative data to support the study purpose and answer questions of research through comparison of learner’s achievement. This can be done before and after appropriate methods of instructions during the application of courses of MSL Program.

The achievement of learner is greatly influenced by motivation, the improvement in the achievement of learners is due to the factors like learning quality, and attitude of teachers and learning resources availability between different students are a source of inspiration which let the students in attainment of better grades. In this manner, the application of best ways of teaching, with no learners’ team of motivation and the achievement of student is considered as low..............
