Apple’s Core Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Apple’s Core Case Study Solution

Conflict Resolution:

When the broad strategic vision entertains diverse strategic visions of Jobs, Wozniak and Markulla, it would ultimately assist in resolving the conflicts among three co-founders regarding their visions.

Promotion of company Interest:

One broad vision also helps in promoting the overall interest of company. When this broader vision are in compliance with employers’ diverse strategic visions, it will help the employers to serve the company more efficiently as it gives recognition to each employer which was one of the problems mentioned above.

Cons:

 Shifting from the main focus:

Broad strategic vision includes each and every aspect which often lead the company to shift from its primary goal. Both Steves and Markulla had different strategic visions and each of them want ostensible recognition. If these diverge visions get merged in one broad vision it would divert the attention from its main focus

Increase Complexity:

Broad vision is often cumbersome to understand and implement as it include all the aspects in detail. Apple’s co-workers had different views and inclusion of all their perspectives in a broader vision will make it complex

Lack of Trust:

Integration of all strategic visions in one broader vision can also cause the issue of trust particularly when one’s vision is implemented in true sense and other’s vision is neglected or not accepted by others under the broader vision.

Negative Impression on Stakeholders:

Broader vision is inclusive of all the diversified visions that make it complex and difficult to implement therefore it leaves negative impression on its stakeholders including potential customers and shareholders.

Alternative-2: Application of Conflict Management Strategies

In this alternative it is suggested that company should use different conflict management strategies according to the situations, to resolve the conflicts. In my opinion, according to their conflicts, collaboration management strategy will work best because recognition and role in the company should be clear and management should ask for the issues its members are facing. Management should collaborate with each member and try to resolve the conflicts.

Pros:

Conflict Resolution:

The optimal outcome of conflict management strategies is to overcome the conflicts and nullify the acerbity among firm’s employees and employers. Jobs was selling its stock to new employers while wozniak was in favor of selling its stock to old employees. Both were against in this approach and this different approach towards the selling of company’s share can only be resolve through the application of appropriate conflict management strategy

Improvement in operation:

Application of conflict management aids in improving operational activities. Woznaik did not want to be over ruled by Markulla and was willing to do his job for fun. This situation can also be done away with application of conflict management

Trust building:

The resolution of conflicts among employers also help the company to build trust among employers. If the firm use collaborative conflict management to address different issues and complains of employers related to each other it will aid to build a trust on Jobs that has been lost by Wozniak when he came to know that his best friend kept telling him lie as discussed above.

Cons:

Time and Resource Consuming:

Application of conflict management strategies requires a lot of time to analyze different strategies that can be appropriate according to the particular situation. Not only time but resources are also required to implement apt conflict management strategy.

Risk of Failure/ Increases Conflicts:

Application of conflict management strategies often proves nothing more than a proverb. Because sometimes it happens that when all employers come face to face to resolve their issues they end up with more quarrels and conflicts. Hence, there is a risk of failure and even more conflicts.

Alternative-3: Division of Operations

The co-founder members have different interest and wants to work for their own interest. Each partner has different expertise, one is good for marketing while other is good in designing. It is advisable for the company to make divisions of company’s operation.

Pros:

Increase in productivity:

When it is clear that which work is performed by whom it becomes easier to do task efficiently and effectively. Hence, it is obvious that efficient and effective work leads the company towards the betterment and enhance the productivity.

Decrease duplication of work:

With the help of clear division of work according to the expertise of each employer, duplication of works is reduced to great extent. Because each and every employer comes to know its relative task which aid him not to indulge in work to which he is not liable.

Resolutions of conflict:

When roles, duties and operations are clearly divided among the employers it automatically aid in resolving the conflict that arise when two or more employees work on the same job.

Cons:

Time and resource consumption:

In order to divide the work among employers, insight about their relative expertise is essential to gather which requires much time. Besides it, hefty amount of resources are also needed to divide the work among employers because each employers need different workspace to continue its work which ultimately results in expansion of firm’s departments.

Application of Different business models in single firm:

If each member of the founding team is assigned to different task as per his expertise, each employer will adopt different strategy to do his work. Therefore, it can cause the development of diverge business models within a single firm.

Invalid source specified.

Increase in complexity:

Division of operations can end up with increased complexity as well because both Steves have similar expertise and both are interesting in manufacturing state-of-the-art personal computers therefore it is not an easy task to divide their operation according to their interest and expertise. Ergo, division of operation overlaps the work of employers which ultimately results in increased complexity.

Alternative-4: Detailed written Agreements

Partners have many trust issues with each other and to build trust, it is suggested that company should make detailed agreement in which they should include to whom they should give preference while selling their share. This clause should be added for those partners who have major shares in the company. Jobs ditched Wozniak about the selling price of the product so to build the trust of partners, company should maintain its financials in detail, so each member know the costing, expenses and profits of the company…………
