Airbnb cross-functionality working has turned the company into complex structure. The company comprises of six subsidiaries and 75 executives working for 18 different departments. The respective vice-presidents reports to the CEO, Brian Chesky, who then reports to the company’s board of directors. The board comprises of Directors, Kenneth Chenault, Jeff Jordan and Alfred in including the CEO himself. Though, the company has given the employees a free hand to decide about their product and bring new ideas but they need to get an approval from their respective managers. The product manager works with multiple departments, and he has the power to make decisions though, big projects requires approvals from VP of design and Head of experience, Beth Axelrod. This indicates towards a matrix structure where some managers are just employed to remove hurdles and to facilitate the subordinates. The organization structure is shown in exhibit A

Similarly, the engineering department has a mix of designers, software engineers, product managers and data scientists. The mixture of personnel from different departments results in 14 different teams leading to a complex Holarctic mindset. Holacracy refers to a no management system where people are assigned different roles rather than fixed job positions.
