Veitnam had made substantial economic gains over last three decades. This was subsequent to Doi moi reforms of 1986. Prior to this reform the socialist economy in the countries had not been able to displace the poverty that had plagued the nation in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.

After reform, Vietnam has experienced many years of continual growth, as evidenced by its advances on several economic performance rankings. By 2014, Vietnam's rankings compared favorably with those of a number of its own Asian neighbors. A leading characteristic of the country's strategy for economic development was its emphasis on computing and advice technologies. Students will assess Vietnam's previous successes to pull lessons that could lead to added future success.
