The Transformation of NCR Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Bill Nuti had converted NCR Co. from its past performance in hardware to become a supplier of hardware across a range of industries.

Nuti imagined a world in which consumers would use NCR hardware or applications whether transacting at a financial institution or ATM, buying clothing at a shop, checking flight at airport, and which NCR software will register transactions, securely gather and process the information, and use the transaction data to help NCR customers efficiently deal with their operations. In early 2013 and 2011, NCR had made two major acquisitions of firms that were significant providers of transaction software in the hospitality and retail industries. Now, in late November 2013, Nuti and his team were considering a third possible important purchase: Digital awareness, a leader in online and mobile banking. Nuti saw Digital Insight as key to complementing NCR's offerings in the financial services business, converting it from maker of isolated, electromechanical cash registers and also ATM in "omni-station, omni-business, applications-driven business." Would this acquisition be the following right strategic move for NCR's transformation?
