The Dynamics of Strategic Agility: Nokias Rollercoaster Experience Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This article provides a framework for solving the central mystery in the field of strategic management: how to overcome the firms compromise between the time that results from the strong strategic commitment needed for leadership in the industry with the need for strategic flexibility in terms of strategic gaps? In this paper we develop a meta-analysis of possible underlying strategic agility, which are clustered around the strategic sensitivity (both visual perception and intensity of awareness and attention), resource fluidity (the internal ability to reconfigure business systems and redeploy resources rapidly), and Leadership Unit (ability top team to make bold decisions quickly without getting bogged down in a "win-lose" politics at the top). In-depth study of the evolution of Nokia for the last twenty years, this paper shows how these three meta-capabilities to interact with the times and offers a framework that allows us to save and restore strategic flexibility, as it matures.
