Spreading Happiness: Warm Fuzz Cards Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In December 2008, Eric Mills and her husband, Craig, and made plans. They recently decided to start a family in the next 12 months, and is now making decisions about how to manage their careers, how they were going to take this important step. Eric started Warm card Fuzz, Toronto company that produces greeting cards, just over two years ago, in 2006. The business grew slowly but profitably. Craig has been used as a human resources executive at a large company. He was very supportive of the business Eric. In fact, he believes that the business can grow much faster. Eric, on the other hand, loved her slow growth strategy. However, she was not sure that she can run the business as it is currently structured and family at the same time. They will have to decide what to do in the near future. They would need time to decide how quickly to grow, develop a plan, raise money, and possibly hire staff, all before they started a family. This case provides students with an example of the business start-up and understanding of: 1) the decision on how to grow fast 2) The decision of how much and where to invest in growing a business 3) as managerial skills, knowledge and preferences may influence decision-making in business / Family businesses 4) the importance of cash management in an early growth stage 5), as the various stages in the development of new business will dictate the need for detailed financial control and business management. This case is suitable for a 75-minute introductory course on entrepreneurship.
