Reflection Report The case solution  

The company supports the philosophies through Six Sigma management system for identifying the defects in the process by using various tools in the control system, improve the process quality and increase the capability of business. According to six sigma the standard defect rate should be 3.4 defects per million opportunities that means 99.99%. Management is using six sigma approach because as a manager our first priority is to reduce waste in order to decrease the environmental condition and reduce the operational cost in the power generation process. Siemens implements six sigma to improve its performance and reduce defects rate. Employees are involved in the continuous improvement process, they discuss if any of the mishaps occur and resolves them on spot for a continuous workflow.

Continuous Improvement proactive or reflective Approach

Continuous improvement is the concept of improving the products at each stage.It is one of the essential principles of quality management, continuous improvement is used to save the company from future costs, reduces waste and improvesthe customer value. It is a proactive approach to quality management, because quality management is not a one-time process; it is a continuous process, and managers do future planning, considering the potential problems that can affect the production of employee performance. A continuous improvement is a proactive approach to managing the quality in Siemens Gas Turbines Company. We use a proactive approach to prevent future losses and cost incurrences (Qualityze, 2020). In the future, the companies will focus on the new and advanced option of managing the quality to save time.  Companies will use software to manage the quality of the organization. We use this approach to reduce the overhead costs, increase the production quantity, reduce the wastage of resources and increase the auditing efficiency. Our company cannot rely on a reactive approach because of high investment in production and resources. The management cannot bear the high wastage cost (Talkroute, 2020) Further refer Exhibit 2.

Alignment with best practice.

As an Assistant Manager at Siemens Gas Turbines Company; I have been trying my best to maintain the quality and ensure the best services, alongside which, my main focus is on the employees’ safety following the six sigma process. The best practices in quality management includes good leadership, employees’ engagement, relationship management and continuous improvement. Siemens Gas Turbines has managed to align its practices with best practices in the management and no doubt we are near to those best practices. Satisfied clients and loyal employees are also the proof of effective quality management methods being practiced by the organization.

Initially, we work on setting goals and objectives, further, we make sub-departmental goals to make them more specific and efficient. We develop strategies to achieve these goals, usually, we focus on sharing the goals with all the employees so that they can start achieving the goals on anindividual level (CFI, 2019). After setting the goals; we set the priorities and make sure that employees know these priorities. We use this method due to its effectiveness, employees will achieve their goals according to the priorities of the organization. As an assistant manager; I have tried my best to align the goals of the company with individuals’ goals to achieve the overall goals of the company Further refer Exhibit 3.

Industry practice and theory

During the academic sessions; we study many terms and lengthy processes for management and operations. After serving as an Assistant Manager in the Siemens Gas Turbines Company; I found that we do not follow every step with the same terminology, but at the backend we follow the same process and our goals are the same which we go through our academic theories. No doubt theories explain the relationships and describe the behaviors of employees, these theories provide insight on how one should proceed to get effective results. Throughout my experience; I learned how we follow theories for planning and understood the employees’ behavior. Theories help us to fulfill our duties effectively. During planning and goal setting; I usually go through the theories and explore the relationships to do my job effectively. Sometimes we came across the situations that were a bit opposite or different from theories and teachings, then I had to make sudden decisions to prevent any loss or mishap. As an Assistant Manager; I monitor each employee under my supervision and guide them to do their job in the best way possible and quality control culture increased their motivation to do the job.

Discussion

Siemens energy should make people aware of their initiatives towards climate change.People are less aware of the company as compared to General Electric. The company has well-defined products and largest investment as compared to GE, but the communication is much strong, which has left the company behind GE. The company should also provide performance metrics that need to be audited before implementation. Siemens should establish and maintain good relations with the government, because they face corruption claims and if the company fails to maintain good relationships with the government, then it might face serious problems in the future. The company must improve its communication with stakeholders, in order to align them with the company’s vision. (Research, 2008). Additionally Siemens should continuous training to employees to increase the quality and safety in the business unit. Whereas Siemens is following the six sigma process to maintain the operations and production quality. Being an Assistant manager follow the continuous on the job mentoring to increasing the work quality of the employees. The quality control culture in the organization allow me as an assistant manager to handle the workers and employees easily. Six sigma management system help me to identify lope holes timely and maintain product quality....................
