CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

3.1 Introduction

The methodology section of the paper explains the research methodology section and the overall method that will be under observation while meeting the objectives. The chapter will further structure the research by introducing the key concepts of the research and explaining the further methods that will be adopted to collect the data (Creswell, 2003).

3.2 Research Design

A qualitative approach will be used in the paper that will be used as a formal, systematic, objective process that can describe and test the relationship and eventually examine the cause and effect relationship among variables. Survey can be a useful source to conduct descriptive, exploratory and explanatory research. To access the importance of third party logistics for e-commerce a survey method will be used to collect the original data, which can describe the direct relationship with the participants in the industry directly.

A survey obtains information from a sample of people by means of self-report, that is, the people respond to a series of questions posed by the investigator. In this study, the information is collected through self-administered questionnaires distributed personally to the subjects by the researcher (Denzin, 2000). Basically, descriptive survey is selected in this study because it can provide accurate and perfect portrayal of the complete characteristics, which include the behavior, attitude, opinion, knowledge and the belief of every particular situation, individual or group. The particular design is to meet the objectives for the study, which basically understands the different opinion of each participant participating in the survey collected for the study importance of third party logistics. The aim of conducting the research was to depict the attitudes, feelings, beliefs, experience and reactions of participants in a comprehensive way (Creswell, 2003).

3.3 Research Approach

The research is conducted to find the importance of third party logistics for e-commerce. The study will also find the impact of US post and China post services on e-commerce as third party logistics (Denzin, 2000). It will help in determining the factors that are influencing the implementation of third party logistics. The dependence of ecommerce may bring in the significant impact of third party logistics, which is an independent variable in the research study. Therefore, the research study will identify the impact of third party logistics on e-commerce.

3.4 Research Strategy

With regards to the research approach, a systematic literature review was constructed for a qualitative feel of matter. In order to rationalize our research study, the interview survey will be use as a tool and method of qualitative conclusive research. It is a cost efficient and quick mode to acquire detailed data from the respondents and to evaluate the results concluded from the study (Denzin, 2011).

3.5 Data Collection Method

The data collection method for the study will be collected through a structured interview. Basically, a questionnaire is a printed self report that is designed to extract information that can be obtained through written response of the participants or the respondents. The information that is obtained through a structured interview is quite similar, which is also obtained by an interview but it is quite evident that questions tend to have in depth details if they are properly structured. Another method that can be used to research about the study of the impact of third party logistics on e-commerce can be the secondary research method. Secondary research basically is the most widely used method and one of the most appropriate methods of collecting data. It is conducted with the help of secondary data.

The process involves the collection of data through various studies that have been conducted on the topic and to further understand it accordingly. Secondary research is conducted by finding information about a particular topic or industry through third party sources such as the research reports, magazines, articles, company websites and other research studies conducted on the topic. It is basically any study or research that is gathered from external sources to the marketer from internal sources, such as accessing material from previous market research carried out by the marketer’s organization, accounting records, sales reports and other similar research studies under the secondary research quadrant.

3.6 Validity and Reliability

The validity addresses the basic problem of whether a measure helps in measuring the problem that actually needs to be measured. However, the main or the obvious concern with validity is that whether the data measured through validity is relevant and precise or not, and the second concern is that to what extent we can generalize the results obtained through the validity. In this research, it brings in the question whether the interview has been measured in an accurate manner and whether the interviewed questions have answered or analyzed the purpose or the objective of the research (Denzin, 2011)...................
