Issues related to the quality of life:

Patients with diabetes are known to have worse quality of life as compared to those individuals with no diabetes. The occurrence of diabetes represents an increased risk of depressive symptoms that negatively influences the quality of life. (Miranda T Schram, 2009) Thus, the issues related to the poor quality of Emily’s were found to be associated with depressive symptoms which mainly includes confusion and difficult position. This is mainly due to aninability for self-regulation of the glycaemiclevels through monitoring of the blood glucose, balance the food intake, intake of insulin or hypoglycaemic agents, and performing physical activities. If these issues are resolved, it would provide her with the following physiological and psychological benefits.

Psychologicalbenefits:

Due to a stressed state of mind, she is required to consult a psychologist for the therapy as an episode of care. Because she is finding it difficult to make lifestyle changes which primarily includes the change in diet. Psychological benefits associated with the therapy mainly includes assistance from psychologists, in orderto bring significant changes in the behavioural approach to bring gradual improvement in eating habits, levels of physical activity and stress management. She would learn the effective strategic approaches to make sure that her glucose level is monitored daily, take medications on time and completion of other self-management activities related to diabetes. Additionally, it has been reported by the studies on diabetes and depression that during the treatment for depression; there could be an occurrence of  asignificant improvement in the blood glucose levels as well as in mood levels. (APA, 2013)

Physiological benefits:

The benefits of a physiologicalapproach are associated with psychological benefits. Physiological benefits mainly include the exercisethat is known to be associated with psychological factors, such as an increased self-efficacy and changes in self-concept, distraction, and a sense of mastery. Physiological factors like synthesis and metabolism of serotonin, endorphins, changes in the hypothalamic adrenocortical system, and increased transmission of central non-epinephrine. (Sheri R. Colberg, 2010) Similarly, aerobic and resistant training are known to bring improvement in the effective management of diabetes through physical activity i.e. reduction in the haemoglobin A1C levels and improvement in glucose tolerance level.

Reflection and Future Recommendation:

The etiology of type 2 diabetes tends to be complex in association with irreversible factors of risk, such as: ethnicity, race, genetics, and age, and reversible factors like smoking, physical activity, and diet.  A large number of cross-sectional, retrospective and prospective researchers have found a potentially significant relation amongst type 2 diabetes and physical inactivity. Physical activity is likely to be useful in progression of preventing of type 2 diabetes. (Nita G Forouhi, 2018) Similarly, the dietary prescription in accordance to the academic literature, is known to improve the medical condition of the patient suffering from type 2 diabetes and physical activity bouts must be performed every thirty minutes for the benefits of blood glucose level.(Sheri R. Colberg, 2016)

The dietary patterns possess beneficial effects on patients with diabetes mellitus. Generally, glucose metabolism and traditional patterns of food are mainly found to be associated with a noticeable decrease in the developmental risk of type-2 diabetes.Inclusion of the specified food to diet, reduces the diabetic symptoms. Considering the strong association of type 2 diabetes with high carbs and fat intake(Nita G Forouhi, 2018); highly monounsaturated fat and a high carbohydrate diet are known to bring an improvement in the insulin sensitivity. (Waqas Sami, 2017)Additionally, the approach of modulation of the gut microbiota as a therapeutic strategy, is known for discoveries for the prevention of metabolic disorders, obesity, type II diabetes, atherosclerosis, and cardiac disease. (M. Vijayasimha, 2018 )A low-calorie diet is thereby known for the provision of < calories in a day for an effective management of the incidence of type 2 diabetes. (CARE, 2008 ) Therefore, based on the medical condition of the patient; she is advised to follow the diet with the recommendation to exercise about 30 minutes each day and drink plenty of water.

Considering the aforementioned healthcare recommendations;it is expected that consulting a psychologist for the motivational therapeutic approach would provide Emily with a sense of change,in order to bring significant changes in her lifestyle. This is considered important because Emily’s lifestyle had a bad impact, contributing to the progression of type 2 diabetes, which led to the onset of depressive symptoms. Due to anincreased responsibility of Emily towards her family;the behaviour and approach to deal with obesity, depressive symptoms, and type 2 diabetes are likely to bring an improvement in the perception to live an improved and physically active lifestyle. This would also improve the episodes of care regarding professional assistance at the hospital setting,in regards to self-monitor blood glucose levels.

Summary:

Emily complained about the confusion and difficulty in understanding different situations. This is because she was represented with factors, such as body mass index i.e. 35 and confusion which leads to the diagnosis of depression and anxiety. Due to this reason, she was unable to pay attention to her medical condition. The inadequate and under-scored psychological support from her family has resulted in a poor quality of life and a reduction in the general well-being of the patient. Such behaviours are known for preventing the occurrence of diseases, decreasing the morbidities, bringing an improvement in the quality of lifeand decreasing the healthcare costs.......................................
