Interpretation

The statements of the client and the information provided by the client is given a new meaning by the counselor. This mainly includes different reasoning to the client’s issues, behavioral explanations, thoughts and feelings, in order to improve their thought process. The interpretations was made to assist the client in building connections that seemingly resonate with the statement pointing out variable patterns and offering of a new framework for understanding. This provided an increased focus of the patient in providing new aspect to the problem followed by the development of a goal. The interpretations were neither short nor long, however they were required to be kept short. (Drab, 2020)

The evaluation of all the counselling skillsrepresented that listening, open questions, and genuineness were highly effective; whereas, empathy and interpretation required some improvement.

Feedback from client

Feedback method

Technological advancement has significantly revolutionized the way how feedback is received from the clients. The new and effective approaches to collect feedback from the patient mainly include: email surveys, filling up a questionnaire regarding the services provided after the appointment, filling out feedback forms on the website and/or interaction with the clients using social media platforms. Thus, the feedback approach used to evaluate the experience of Jean after the session, included email surveys and rating the counselor on the website.

Jean ranked my counselling services 4 out of five, which tends to represent an excellent service provided to the client. Similarly, she expressed comfort while having conversation with me. She appreciated the technique used by me to approach her and allow her to open up to many things that she has been going through for a longer period in her life. Thus, email surveys provide an opportunity to the clients to express their views regarding the services, collaboration, and relationship building, which were tried to have developed by the counselor during the first session of counselling. She also mentioned some flaws in the sessions which I would make sure that they are  resolved in the next session in order to drive smooth and comfortable experience of counselling session with Jean.

Impact of client’s feedback

The client feedback greatly influenced my experience in providing counselling service to the patients. Considering the fact that each individual has his/her own set of issues, and goals that are required to be achieved. Jean answered the question “What were your observations?” to “I do not know, maybe you communicated quite softly.” She was asked the reason behind rating 4. She said “It was not much hard for me to communicate because I was really focused and mystery of thoughts had vanished at a point during the session. It reminded myself to pay attention to the words you were delivering and it really sounded interesting to me ,to hear you.”

A positive experience of a client regarding the session allows me to focus more towards the strong areas that are the key skills of counselling and have positive influenced over the client’s  experience. Similarly, changed perception of the client and highlighting some flaws such as “Yes, guilty as charged.” This statement of Jean pointed out her concern over confidentiality about what she said during the session, because she was a bit nervous in the start of the session regarding whether she should speak of her heart and reduce the burden of her heart or not.

Accurate and honest feedback

The feedback provided by Jean was considered to be accurate and honest, because Jean neither provided only good feedback nor did she keep it completely negative. Rather, the feedback had mixed views, which  was clearly visible by her statements. As she stated "I would like to attend more sessions with the counselor because I feel like I have built a strong connection. I found myself focused and felt light hearted when I returned back home, after the session." Such statements of Jean indicates that the feedback provided by her were honest.

However, the accuracy of the feedback was doubtful despite the willingness of Jean to attend the next session because the feedback was given through an email survey, which did not ensure that the form was filled by Jean. It could be someone else on her behalf as well. Although the survey was emailed to the personal contact details provided by Jean, because she is an accountant and has also been a writer, whichindicates that she has great sense of responding to questions in appealing words to make situation look even better.

Key Findings as a counselor

  • Provision of counselling service as a therapy to the clients or patients, has been a challenging task because it is quite hard to make the client comfortable and convince him/her to open up with you.
  • The effectiveness of the practice skills is mainly determined by the willingness and interest of the client in attending next counselling session with the same counselor.

Thus, client was asked to fill the email survey as a feedback to the counselling session. To encourage the client to provide honest feedback, was based on the developed connection. This means that the client was asked to fill the form to provide me an insight about my performance during the session, so that I would not repeat those mistakes again.

Egan Critique

Egan’s Stages

The Egan's 3 Stages of Psychology model has proven to be the one most effective psychotherapy tools that a psychotherapist or psychologist can use.The Egan's model is basically based on the three stages of mental development. These stages are the pre-natal stage, the fetal stage, and the toddler stage. These three stages are all essential to the functioning of the mind.During the fourth and the final stage in the developmental stages of a person; the person reaches his or her adulthood. At this time, the person is responsible for his or her own well-being and the well-being of those who are related to him or her. At that time, the person can also make informed decisions regarding concerning matters, such as: medical, educational, religious, emotional and moral decisions. This is the end of the developmental stages in a person's life, which represents the completion of the biological growth and development of that person.

Egan model related to session

Egan Critique Stages is a program that has been used for years, by those who strive to improve their skills and their health. For those that are familiar with the program; there will be no surprise that it focuses on the different stages of the human body. The four stages that are discussed, include the primary process of the body, which is what the stage is designed for. It is also designed to help people who want to learn how to perform certain things, such as those who want to improve their thought process. It should be noted that people who are trying to improve their health or reduce the amount of stress in their life, would find that there will be many different reasons for doing so. If a person is working on weight loss, they might not want to spend a large sum of money on a program that provides an intensive look at different stages of body.

As a matter of fact, many people have found that having this model as part of their counseling training can be actually very beneficial to them. However, many people have also found that this model works well as a self-help model, which they use to help them deal with various problems and deal with the things that they should able to do when it comes to their own lives. Because of this, I was able to find out which one of the various different cognitive models would work best for Jean. She will then be able to use the model to figure out how to be able to deal with her problem and how to take care of it on her own. I was then able to figure out which one of these models is going to work the best for her, and find the one that is going to work with Jean to resolve her issue of consistent depressive state of mind.

Meet Client’s needs and preferences

The important thing which should be noted is that no matter how a person uses the Egan Critique, they will find that they will be able to get an in-depth look at the different stages of the body, as well as the different exercises that are used to help with different stages. This helps in  ensuring that a person will get all of the information they need, to improve their body and get into great shape. With this program, a person will be able to learn how to improve their health and their physical condition. If you have not learned about modeling; you might find it difficult to progress through the other stages. However, you will be able to advance through the modeling process if you work hard at practicing your skills. In addition, if you are having a hard time progressing through each stage; you can always find a mentor who has worked in the modeling field before. A mentor will have the same goals for you. In this case, the counsellor is there to assist you in each step to progress to achieve your goals.

Thus, to create an efficient model based on your client’s interests; ask them to write down any questions or thoughts they might have. The model then asks them to identify any ideas or situation that have been experiencedby them in their lives, after which they  identified the most important ideas. This model will show you how to make them work with one another. This will allow you to teach your model effectively. As I create Jean’s model, I want to use a method that can help meto connect different ideas together. The model is the key to learn how each idea relates to others. Ialso found that it helps Jean to create a map, so I can better understand what is going on in her life.

Conclusion

Jean broke down emotionally after the death of her first husband as he committed suicide and the recent death of her elderly mother with whom she had lived for years. After the first session, it was claimed by Jean that she felt comfortable during the exploration of her issues and showed signs of comfort regarding the topic, eliminating all kinds of obstacles. She appreciated the technique used by me to assess her and allow her to open up many things that she has been going through for a longer period of time.......................................
