Corporations Culture and Commitment: Motivation and Social Control in Organizations Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

The concept of "corporate culture" has received wide attention in recent years. But what is meant by the term, and why managers have to deal with it? Culture can be seen as a mechanism of social control. Thus, culture is important both for the strategy as a mechanism to create commitment among members. Based on comparison of the strengths of cultural organizations, ranging from cults and religious organizations strong culture firms, this paper argues that culture and commitment to results: the system of participation that rely on processes of additional obligations, the management as a symbolic action that helps employees interpret their reasons for work, strong and consistent signals from colleagues that attention and shape attitudes and behavior, as well as integrated systems of remuneration that use recognition and approval.
