Consumer Lending in Japan: Citi CFJ (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Despite a convention of high family savings, a dynamic and advanced consumer lending sector has been supported by Japan. The high profitability of the sector has occasionally brought interest from national banks as well as worldwide investor.

Most lately, in the year 1998 and 2000 respectively, GE Capital and Citi Financial both obtained Japanese consumer lending businesses. In the year 2006, when the Japanese Supreme Court rules that one of the large Japanese consumer lenders must repay a borrower for "extra interest payments," the US businesses must determine the way to respond.
