The center in Switzerland dealing with Electronics and Microtechnology that is leading non-profit research institution located in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Le Centre Suisse d'Electronique et de Microtechnique S.A. (CSEM), has origins in the country’s watch industry CSEM kept close connections to several Swiss universities, and through time, the activities of the centre expanded to include technology consulting, contract creation, and fundamental and applied research. By the late 1990s, CSEM started spinning off guaranteeing commercial enterprises and integrating them as for profit businesses. In 2001, CEO Thomas Hinderling questioned whether any adjustments in the strategy of CSEM were desired or needed going.
