Abstract

The case illustrates the Lumby’s new position in Norwood Waterworks, an acquisition of EMCO Corporation. EMCO offers the waterworks services, plumbing fitting and other roadwork service in Canadian Market. The company has recently acquired the Norwood waterworks competitor of EMCO. The company has assigned Lumpy to incorporate the Culture and values of EMCO into the Norwood to align the whole organization on same page. In doing so, the company adopt two brand strategy to pursue in market, yet the cultural value and organizational structure will be carried same. Lumby identified the key loopholes in the organizational culture and organizational structure of Norwood, which have accounted for the low profits in the market. The major issues identified, are the complacency of the employees, HR practices, organizational culture and organizational structure. Also low motivation and high salaries are accounted for the low morale of the employees, hence effecting the productivity.

Lumby has been assigned a new role in the organization of aligning the new acquired organization with the current family of EMCO. Lumby is the district manager at EMCO who have experienced different roles over the period of time during his tenure in EMCO.EMCO is a waterworks equipment producing company like valves, pipes and Whole casings. The company operates under different name and under different division in the Canadian market. The company has expanded over the period of time by acquiring the competition,and thenaligningthem with the parent organizational structure.

Recently, the company has acquired Norwood anther competitor of EMCO in the market, which the management acquired due tothepotential it have to pursue the functions and operations in market.And has good market share that would help EMCO spread the market offering, by adopting two brand strategy.The two brand strategy will enable the company to attract and grab the customers from both ends. Also the same strategy will allow the company to perform and compete in order to remainboosted in the market. Since, the acquisition is an important role and interest to the EMCO, the company assigned Lumby the role of Change manager to bring the both organizational same page, in terms of organizationculture, structure values and HR policies.

Norwood operates from three facilities in Canada. Afterentering the organizationLumby started, by analyzing the current situation in the organization, which has been vulnerable. It isbecause of unmonitored practices and demotivatedemployees. InNorwood, the organizational structure has been rigid with Tall hierarchy, which have hindered the communication and has led to lack of ownership,thus effecting the performance. He also analyzed theweak team synergy and bonding among the members in performing the role and duties. In addition, the employees were overpaid which demotivated them in achieving more, thus made the performance of the stagnant and gradually low. Also the employees seemed to be in state of complacency regarding the role they played in the company’s profits. In addition, there was a lack of sense of responsibility ownership..........
