Varsity crew team coach Army at West Point gathered eight of the best rowers in the first team and the crew of the second tier of the rowers in the second command, using objective data on the activities of the individual. As the second boat is constantly beating the first boat in the race, the trainer tried to identify team dynamics that cause these anomalous results.
