Applied Exercise Therapy in Rehabilitation Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Applied Exercise Therapy in Rehabilitation Case Study Analysis

Despite considering the performance of trunk as an important predictor for the functioning and balancing of trunk, it has been supported by the evidence that the trunk rehabilitation effectiveness is considered as scarce. This is mainly due to the reason that weight symmetry has been enhanced in the stroke patients who were given awareness regarding the trunk position, during the trainingSimilarly, the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation which tends to be based on the anterior elevation resistance and posterior depression, represented by pelvic movement of lower trunk muscle led to an improved walking in the stroke patients during early phase. The inclusion of additional exercises for improvement in trunk functioning to regular physiotherapy resulted in an improved lateral flexion performance of trunk in patients suffering from stroke.

On the other hand, early truncal exercising after stroke tend to bring improvement in the mobility and balancing capability. The performance of trunk exercises using physio-ball is not only known for the production of better rotation control of trunk in comparison to similar exercises that are performed on a plinth, but its effect is also known to carry out to the performance of stepping balance in the patients experiencing acute-stroke. Therefore,it has been reported that there has been a significant improvement in the balance performance parameters followed by the administration of trunk rehabilitation in patients with chronic stroke.(Suruliraj Karthikbabu, 2012)

Similarly, the performance of trunk training exercises that may or may not involve the usage of unstable surface; can turn out to be a good rehabilitation strategic approach which not only bring improvement in the trunk performance but also improve the dynamic sitting balance in post-stroke patients. (Rosa Cabanas-Valdés, 2013)Furthermore, the treatment of patient with physio-ball were known to represent the capability to walk five minutes with the requirement of support within one minute of walk. This means that the base of support can be significantly changed between single and double stances i.e. the placement of sound leg two times on and off a step while standing up for about 15 seconds. This mainly based on the notion to bring an improvement in the stepping balance, resulting in animproved upper and lower trunk muscle control, which is essential to stabilize the pelvis. (Trueblood PR, 1989)

Therefore, the trunk exercises are only known to bring an improvement in the functioning of the trunk but these exercises do not play any role in strengthening it. Whereas, the task-specific trunk exercise might have a significant impact over the strength and functional outcome of trunk. (Sumi Rose, 2016)

Conclusion

Based on the above discussed literature; it has been concluded that the wide-ranging studies support the statement that trunk exercises bring a significant improvement in the upper extremities in the post-stroke patients. This is mainly based on the duration of the trunk exercise and the monitoring of the performance, which, validates to conduct the further research in different situations or conditions. The performance of region-specific muscle exercise is of great importance in patients who are suffering from post-stroke condition;for the facilitation of muscle coordination, stability, movement, and balance. Therefore, the aim of the trunk rehabilitation approach was not only based on the improvement of upper extremity movement but also on aiding the recovery of other body areas, which mainly include lower extremity...................................
