In October 2008, President Bush signed into law the requirement that some private health insurance plans provide coverage for mental health care coverage is provided for medical and surgical diseases as part of the economic stimulus package, covering more than a decade of advocacy in both houses of Congress, a bipartisan coalition of congressmen and senators for mental health parity.
