Westpac: Offshore Banking in the Cook Islands Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case presents two vignettes from the point of view of Laura White, a newly promoted manager of the Cook Islands operations on large Australian bank. In Vignette, White learns of the existence of an offshore bank group (OBU) - a significant source of income for the islands of the economy - in which clients identity is unknown. Bank has just brought on a new CEO, who stressed the importance of transparency and knowing your customer. Given the context of philosophy of the CEO and the new role as manager of the White, she must decide whether to raise her concerns with her manager OBU. Vignette B provides further history on previous experience with the White ethical scandal at the bank.
