Vallourec, a leading manufacturer of seamless tubing, developed a radically new technology that used steel powders to create the pipes. To ensure a supply source, Vallourec finally had to get its provider of metal powder, and to build the quantity needed to reduce its cost. Now, it was time to build the market for them product.

The use of powdered metal was quite vital in the process known as “injection molding”. After seeking licensees in vain, Vallourec had to adapt into making components that are molded itself. The case describes its technology was developed by Vallourec and established a business to describe it.
