Tata Chemicals Ltd.: Global Acquisitions Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

At the start of the century, Tata Chemicals Ltd. (TCL) made various international acquisitions. The case tracks the revitalization path followed by the company. TCL has to decide about an acquisition of a venture in North Amercian early stage potash development company that would enable the company in setting up its own fertilizer plant.

This potential acquisition, just like the other earlier acquisitions that uplifted the company to 2nd position in soda ash production worldwide, might lead the company this time as well. However, it requires a great deal of attention from its executives, because of the high risk. They have to decide that when to rely on the market-driven contractual arrangements and the appropriate time for this backward integration that could mitigate the risks.
