Supercompra: Sourcing from Small Andean Farmers, Spanish Version Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

By purchasing controlling interest in Supercompra, a large local retailing company, rupo Mazaplan, a Mexican giant, entered the Ecuadorian market. Juan Pedro Zapata, Supercompra's incoming CEO lost a buying version whereby a principal company office sourced all produce from national providers who subsequently made straight deliveries to spot of sale, and replaced it with some other featuring decentralized company units called the "proximity platforms" situated in various areas of the nation, which resulted in produce directly from the local farmers. The very first platform was created in the Andean area, where farmers were smallholders. The case looks at the problems faced by companies when trying to develop commercial relations with low-income providers through market mechanisms, and elaborates on how these relationships were managed by Supercompra.

It's chronologically situated in March 2006, the moment when the Supercompra must choose how to proceed concerning its relationship with its low returns suppliers: 1) enable connections with little Pallatanga growers to decline away, suspending further efforts along with resources invested in organizing them, and donating efforts wholly to building relationships with local middlemen and bigger commercial farmers; 2) continue to work on the relationship with little growers, but reframe it as a societal or CSR initiative; or, 3) allocate more attempts and financial resources to building secure and solid business relationships with small companies, which would indicate making a main investment, and donating supplementary time and effort organizing and nurturing small farmers with the hope of attaining profitable commercial dealings with them surrounded by a number of years.
