The city of Boston had applied to host the nominating convention for the Democratic party residential and it did it to bring economic benefit and prestige to the city. The convention was however, subject to tightest measures for protection and security as a result of the events that had occurred in September, 11, 2001.

As a result of the security planning, a number of roads and the key sections of the city had been shut down and this had engendered complaints from the business owners and the citizens alike.
