Question 2

Valuation of the Rockdale approach by using a model of maximizing learning

Training Design

The design of the Rockdale training is based upon educating and teaching of the company’s employees about the skills that are required to overcome the existing problems. Although the design for the needs assessment is better, but still the approach that Rockdale adopts in order to get the desirable result is not planned effectively.

The company has not clearly defined the conditions for learning that brought the change in the performance of the employees and their attitude towards customer responses. However, in the designing of the training Rockdale describes the reasons behind the development of each skill as well as its importance towards attainment of the company’s goal. In addition to this, the methods that could be used to maintain the knowledge and learning of the employees during the training is also not specified clearly.

Trainee Characteristics

The approach of the Rockdale training is focused on different skills and capabilities of the employees that need to be enhanced in order to reduce the turnover rate of the company by conducting different discussion sessions. These sessions include team building decision, group decision making, the art of listening and managing diversity. But these discussions did not include the sessions that work to enhance the skills of each individual member of the company which is the most important part of reducing the manufacturing defects, employee turnover rate and high customer complain.

These skills should include improving the motivational level of the employees, ability to work effectively as well as determining their attitude towards work. These all skills are necessary while conducting the need assessment process and distributing responsibilities.

Training Transfer

The approach that is used by Rockdale in its needs assessment is supporting the working environment of the company, but it did not involve different inside and outside factors that are essential for maximizing the learning to achieve the objectives of the training program. Since the training session of the company for employees is of short duration making it difficult for the workers to effectively execute their learning into their job that indicated the worst results for Rockdale Electric.

In addition to this, the purpose of the training is not only to get knowledge and skills, but transfer this learning into their job performance that is the most important part of the improvement. The Training transfer is a complex process that requires the effective planning.

Training Content

The approach that Rockdale Electric adopts has not included in the ways that helps the employees in order to implement their learning in their practice life. Moreover, the ineffective content of the training for the employees’ results in an increase in the factors that includes employee’s turnover rate, absenteeism and grievances.

I used different activities in the process of needs assessment that would be helpful throughout procedure of the training as well as that allows the employees to efficiently implement their learning into their daily routine job work. The need assessment process is classified into three different phases; each consists of different activities while on the side Rockdale’s approach did not develop any specific define procedure for developing and designing of the training program.

Additionally, different method for gathering the data is considered instead of focusing on only employee survey like Rockdale that provides limited information. The focus of the process is on identifying the factors that are important, that reduces the gap between the current problems towards reaching the desirable outcomes. As well, both internal and external consultants are considered in order to design the training program for the employees in the proposed need assessment process.

Analysis of Model for Maximizing Learning

The model consists of almost all the factors that are necessary to overcome the most of the existing problems of the company. As well, this model focuses on the elements that are key for the development of the need assessment process. The motivating and encouraging factors included in the model would help the company to increase the working morale of the employees that provide the opportunity to reduce the employee turnover rate as well as absenteeism.

In addition to this, it would also help to improve the productivity and efficiency of the employees that may result in the overall increase in the profitability of the company. Despite of all these benefits, there are few elements that could be included in the model to enhance the overall effectiveness of the model. The model should include some other factors that enable to achieve the long-term growth and profitability for the company..........................
