In February 1995, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the largest civil rights organization in the United States was in the midst of crisis. Executive director was fired because of financial irregularities against the accusations of sexual harassment. Immediately after that, the chairman of the board have come under fire as well. In a very close vote, Myrlie Evers-Williams, a longtime member of the Board of Directors was elected the new chairman of the board. She found that leading organizations with a strong decrease of the trust and support, unstable finances, and a broken board.
