Maruti Suzuki India Limited – Industrial Relations (B) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Maruti Suzuki India Limited faced several strikes in its manufacturing plant in Manesar in 2011. The company is now putting efforts to recover from the consequences caused by those strikes. A minor argument breaks out between supervisors and workers, which set off firestorms in an already tensed atmosphere, ultimately the plant’s General Manager of HR died in this conflict.

The company shut the plant and investigation team started the criminal proceeding against the workers involved in the conflicts. This incident puts the question mark about the industrial relations at the plant and particularly the Japanese management style validity in the Indian context.
