Considering a career Marc Rich, a leading global commodity trader before his criminal charges in the United States in 1983. The case examines the historical growth in commodity trading, especially in metals, from the late nineteenth century, and evolving forms, the government intervenes in the market since 1945. Rich joined Philipp Brothers, then the largest commodity trader, in 1954. He formed his own firm two decades later. He was instrumental in the creation of the spot market for oil, and assumed a key role in the industry during the 1970s, through the sale of Iranian oil to Israel and South Africa.
