Manville Corp. Fiber Glass Group (C) (Abridged) Case Solution

To the company’s management shock, the government officials in Japan suggested them not to include a cancer warning label to diatomaceous earth (DE) products sold in Japan.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has ruled that a part of DE is likely carcinogenic, and Manville has prepared to mount a communications attempt notify customers of the cancer warning and to change its labels and material safety data sheets. Now, Manville's senior supervisors are being told that it's "culturally inappropriate" to continue with this strategy in Japan.
