In the Crossfire: Guns, Legislative Leadership and Recall Politics in Colorado Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In the wake of a successful recall campaign launched by grassroots groups angered by the senators' support for just-enacted gun control legislation, democratic Colorado State senators John Morse and Angela Giron were recalled from office in 2013. After Giron and Morse were recalled, Democrats retained a one-seat majority in the Senate.

Some critics resigned while others expressed anxiety that Morse's ouster had legitimized the use of recall politics and believed Morse should have expected the recall election result -normally used to unseat politicians over ethical dilemmas as a way for voters to punish supporters of contentious problems. The case asks students to think about the positives and negatives of recall elections as well as how they can be utilized by political activists and interest groups as a tool to handle political representation.
