Illuminate Ventures: Raising a Venture Fund Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In the Spring of year 2010, Cindy Padnos had been named to Fast Company’s list of ”Most impactful Women in Technology in the year 2010”. Cindy has worked in venture capital (VC) space for more than a decade, starting her own firm, Illuminate Ventures, in 2009 with a concentration on early-stage companies in the business cloud computing space. Cindy's portfolio of personal investments was performing nicely, and the future would be bright, if she could perform for Illuminate.

Before she got to make any investments on behalf of Illuminate Ventures I, she had have to collect capital for her fund in one of the demanding economic times in current history. Since acknowledgements by the media outlets such as Fast Company never spoil, such accolades were not enough to procure the $35 million that was her target. Cindy reflected that this was possibly one of the most difficult, but rewarding, challenges she had undertaken as she looked back over her professional experiences in the corporate world and forward to the hundreds of investor meetings that lay before her.
