Handpresso: From an Innovative Idea to an Alliance Portfolio – Condensed Version Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

The case traces the evolution of an idea to production of the hand-held espresso machine that was a first and smallest of its kind. It tracks the design process and defines ways through which the product introduced in the market. Henrik Nielsen, Nielsen innovation’s CEO, is not in the favor to license it as he owns various designs, but want to establish a new unit for the Handpresso machine. The last part discovers the team in a practical dilemma, the sudden death of Henrik Nielsen that transferred the authority to his wife. The team already has two new machines for the introduction in the following months, the case defines the track followed by the team to launch the product through partnerships and alliances. Having made a conscious decision to pursue the strategy, an agreement was formed with Lavazza, a leading coffee roaster, who then forms an exclusive agreement with the auto giant Fiat.
