In 1965 William Elfers left the American Research and Development Corporation of Georges Doriot to found his own venture capital firm, Greylock. Over the ensuing three decades followed a number of eight Greylock partnerships, during which time Elfers saw a coworker leave to start his own venture capital firm or never lost a general partner. Furthermore, every of the investor in Greylock's first fund contributed in all the succeeding partnerships.
Greylock was established against a long historic tradition of New England fiscal initiation going back to at least the nineteenth century. In essence Elfers assisted to extend a new organizational approach to venture capital through mechanisms that deeply reflected New England's monetary investment culture.
