Food Versus Fuel Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Despite the biofuel has been used for many years (from 1980 to mid-2007, about 2 trillion miles were driven on ethanol blended fuels in the United States), it was not until the late 20 th and early 21 th century, with the reduction oil supplies, the threat of global warming, and unrest in the oil-rich Middle East, people began to think of them seriously as an alternative to petroleum-based fuels. Biofuels are also considered better for the environment than gasoline, because they produce far less carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter, and less toxic substances, hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds. This article describes the production of biofuels, and many of its effects were greater use of energy supply, agriculture and the environment. The use of biofuels is not without controversy, and this article is a good starting point for students who may be asked to investigate further and to identify and discuss the issues presented by the use of biofuels.
