As such, cartoons are a useful way of estimating and tracking public sentiment over time. This informative article uses a historical animation evaluation to track public sentiment toward issues.

Specifically, it compares what they portrayed after and what animations represented prior to the economic crash of 2008. The criteria of story, location, binary struggle, and normative transfer were used as a framework to examine 258 cartoons.
