Electrolux and GE Appliances Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

An attempt was being made by the valuation team of Electrolux to conclude its valuation of GE Appliances in the month ofAugust 2014. The GE Appliance valuation group was working out of Electrolux's business head office in Stockholm, Sweden. Its job was to cease both a valuation and proposed final offer for the appliance component of GE.

The team's challenge was in distinguishing the value of GE's appliance component from its value to Electrolux, for the two were rather distinct. GE would be constructing that differential into its asking price and knew this. At the same time, the new industrial strategy of GE, to move away from consumer products and financial services, made no place for appliances in its corporate future.
