In March 2010, the city in southwestern Ontario have cost proposal from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The mayor and other city councilors must decide whether to dissolve their current municipal police on Sarnia Services (SPS), and replace it with contract officers from OPP. Request of the proposal created a lot of inconvenience to the employees of ATP, and was polarized the community.
