CFWshops Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

CFWshops is a network of drugstore franchises in Kenya, handled by the Sustainable Healthcare Foundation (SHF). The parent company of SHF is the Healthstore Foundation based in Minnesota, US. The nonprofit HealthStore Foundation (HS) (once Sustainable Healthcare Enterprise Foundation) was founded in 1997 by Scott Hillstrom to prevent gratuitous death and sickness by improving accessibility to vital medications in a sustainable way¿.

Based on the fundamental concept of franchising, the factory outlets are for profit, handled by nurses, who provide added to basic hygiene products, basic medications and basic care services. While growth has been stagnant in Kenya, expansion into Rwanda has been successful. A string of fascinating challenges have to be addressed: supply chain, information system, financial sustainability and increase.
