BrapoTech (A): Building to Scale Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This FocusCase is about a smallish Portuguese start-up with a youthful founder directly out of University, which is focused on the rapidly expanding mobile market. The firm is developing innovative mobile solutions which large companies can use to do mobile company by making use of their clients and provide them mobile programs and services (e.g. mobile banking). In a short span of time, BrapoTech manages to work with the largest Portuguese firms in four distinct sectors (TelCo, retail, utility, and banking). However, the mobile market is growing so quickly that more focus is necessary. At precisely the same time, the organization embark on a worldwide growth strategy as well as desires to further scale.

In a related issue, if they need to continue to grow in all verticals or focus exclusively in one. And if to concentrate, in which one? One other significant choice must be taken with respect to financing: should they raise venture capital to finance rapid growth in this marketplace that is exploding or grow only by own means based on own gains? To complicate issues, the CEO along with the Board are not completely aligned which is the best way forward. Multiple critical decisions concerning the firm's (growth) strategy have to be taken quickly in a complex mixture of strategic variables, limited resources, emerging trends, and assorted outside effects. (Note: we have disguised the original name of the organization in this particular case A, so that the results is unable to be found in the Internet. The related video [EV-7] is featuring the business with their actual name.)
