BHP Billitons $40 Billion Hostile Bid for Potash Corp. Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Operations, BHP Billiton Limited (BHP), the largest natural resource company in the world, stretched the ball with heavy focus in Asia and Europe. BHP launched its $ 130 per share bid for Potash Corporation Inc (POT) of Saskatchewan, Canada, the world's largest integrated fertilizer and related industrial and feed company and the largest producer of potash capacities around the world. The acquisition was aimed at meeting BHP's corporate strategy to become a leading global miner of potash. But the offer was refused by the Board and management D POT. Rejection of the original proposal did not dissuade BHP management from the beginning of the proposal through ads in newspapers beginning on August 20, 2010, and the offer is open for acceptance until 11:59 pm on 19 October 2010.
