He must decide whether to join his dad's business, Toronto-based AME Learning, as president working alongside his dad who will be CEO. AME has been in operation for 12 years, largely as a small consulting firm doing financial literacy training. Recently, it shifted strategy to supply textbooks for college accounting courses.

The Joffes are attempting to raise private equity funding but market conditions have made it tough and the company is at risk of exhausting the savings of the senior Joffe.

The case asks students to evaluate the choices facing the two Joffes as they contemplate the future for themselves and AME Learning and explores the challenges of creating an intergenerational working relationship.
