The WGC was the sponsor for SPDR Gold Shares, which was started in 2004 and had become the most successful commodity-based exchange-traded fund. This had surpassed expectations, but allocations to gold stayed little among U.S. long term institutional investors. There would additionally an anticipated shift of wealth to nations such as China and India in the forthcoming decade. Shishmanian was contemplating which gold investment vehicles would be best for the WGC to promote in the USA and other markets going forward.
