World Trade Organization

The World Trade organization isone of the global organizations which sets up rules, policies, and regulations for conducting trade between nations. Its purpose is to ensure the efficiency oftrades conducted between the nations. The main motive of the organization is to create economic stability and peace among nations through the multilateral system which is based on consulting with the member states. WTOalso help nations in conducting foreign investments, in which it governs how this can be accomplished.

European Union

The European Union has always taken benefits from the WTO-based multilateral system as Europe is one ofthemost openeconomies. The trading policies which are established by EU supports the WTO multilateral system. But the recent Brexit, which is UK divorcing with the European Union has caused certain challenges for WTO. Some of the challenges are that it will put WTO’s multilateral system in default if no trade agreement is madebetween these two nations. This will cause UK to charge tariffs on both imports and exports conducted on EU.

While UKis still trading in Europe, UK would require to set up its own schedules for trading because WTO would be considered as risky and problematic. There must be no objections by any member of WTO regarding the UK’s trading schedules.

USA

WTO and NAFTA are two trading related organizations, both deals in improving the trade. WTO makes rules and policies for conducting smooth trades between nations all around the globe, whereas, NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) deals among the US regions which are Mexico and Canada.

The strengths of NAFTA are that it has improved the trades between Canada, Mexico and United States. It helps in lowering the prices on commodity goods such as by making acceptable agreements regarding imports from Mexico. It has also improvedthe employment rate of U.S by creating jobs. NAFTA hasalso improved the economic growth of United States. The weakness of NAFTA is that it has caused people to lose their jobs in the manufacturing sector, suppressed the wages of the employees and Farmers in Mexico went out of business. The opportunities that NAFTA has is to expand its trading on more United States countries to eliminate the trade barriers. The threat that NAFTA is facing is that, Donald Trump wanting to renegotiate with NAFTA by ending the maquiladora program and ending trade with Mexico.
