Fears and Realities: Managing Ebola in Dallas Case Solution

In September 2014, as several West African nations continued to battle a deadly outbreak of the Ebola virus, Dallas, Texas emerged as ground zero for the disease in the U.S. This case recounts how, over the course of three days, Thomas Eric Duncan, who'd lately arrived in the city from Liberia, reported to Dallas Presbyterian Hospital displaying signs of illness. Having sent home to him after his first visit, he was accepted by the hospital after his second; and with his symptoms worsening rapidly, everyone's worst fear was shortly revealed by tests: his diagnosis resulted positive of Ebola. This case talks about how governing bodies both federally and in Texas together with hospital administrators, reacted to the sad news - an extremely difficult task made all the more ambitious by confusion over Duncan's qualifications and travel history, and, eventually, by the intense focus and significant concern on the part of the media and people at large.

Efforts to halt the spread of Ebola in the country were further complicated when two nurses who had cared for Duncan additionally tested positive for Ebola, even though they apparently had followed CDC protocols when interacting with him.
