Beyond the Border Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

The “ Beyond the Border Action Plan” was a bi-national initiative led by a team whose members were from both countries, including the U.S. and Canada in order to enhance the security and to support the cross-border business activities. In 2011,  the senior associate deputy minister of Industry Canada was selected as the personal representative of the Canadian prime minister for the bi-national team. He got confused as he found various decisions on how to move ahead while discussing with his U.S. partners, for instance, which Canadian team member to recruit, whom to consult, which of the available priorities to pursue. Along with this, he needed to balance the interest of prominent Canadian government departments and agencies and private sector in this complex process. However, he was aware that he has to devise a strategy quickly, yet he does not know in which direction to move. The team needed to implement a plan within six months as the prime minister and the U.S. president wanted to expedite this integration process between these two countries.
