Wan Chai, one of the oldest districts in Hong Kong, was appointed one of the reconstruction of urban areas in Hong Kong in 1998. The government has laid out various reconstruction plans in the individual sections within the district. Since the announcement, many community leaders, residents and city planners have expressed concern that the Wan Chai will be "conditioned glass box" if the buildings have been demolished to make way skyscrapers.
