Terry Tesco’s Long Shelf Life Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Tesco has carried on a long way ever since the early 1990s, when it was playing second swindle to Sainsbury. It has a 30% share of the UK markets market, almost as large as its two closest challengers, Sainsbury's and the Wal Mart -backed Asda. It's used its sound domestic base to develop its international businesses, culminating with the start of a chain of convenience stores on Walmart's home jurisdiction in late 2007. It follows his rise from council house child to Britain's mainly accepted business head (five times running) and consultant to the British prime minister. His triumph is all the more astonishing given his low-key approach and lack of personality.

We look at the additional variables - such as fire, ambition and personal example - that have led to his rise, effectiveness and longevity as a leader. Learning Objectives: This case allows teachers to analyze the direction of Terry Leahy through three lenses: in terms of the satisfying individual persona of an effective manager; the chief competencies required; and the crucial roles assumed by the leader. These three perspective are harmonizing and allow participant to get a complete recognition of the challenge of direction - covering what they should do, and leaders have to be, what they have to understand. The case also enables exploration of other problems, related to learning, encompassing oneself, time allocation and maintaining one's border over time.
