In February 2003, Gencor settled with the claimants in asbestos litigation, paying (South African rand) ZAR378 million in the newly established trust with Asbestos and ZAR4.2 million in trust for the Applicants. There were mixed reactions among the lawyers representing the plaintiffs, some believe that Gencor not paid enough, while others were relieved that the fight was over, and the victims would be compensated. This case was the implications for other multinational corporations.
