Privatizing Polands Telecom Industry: Opportunities and Challenges in the New Economy and e-Business (B) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case is a follow up to the privatization of the telecommunications industry in Poland: opportunities and challenges in the new economy and e-business (A), Ivy 9B00M023 product and contains information on Telekomunikacja Polska SA (TPSA) for the period 2000-2008. Students will be interesting to see what actually happened regarding the issues raised in the (A) case. Many expected the France Telecom moved quickly to consolidate its control over the TPSA. However, few expected that TPSA was able to cut its workforce in half so quickly and achieve a substantial increase in profit in 2004. However, France Telecom has been blocked by the slow development of e-business in Poland, and so many expectations for revenues from value-added activities are still not realized in 2008. Focus for discussion (B) The case concerns the entire regulatory changes in the telecommunications sector in Poland. Students will be interested in providing advice in Poland new parliamentary leaders concerning regulatory reforms they would recommend. Students can also discuss whether the European Union (EU) could impose uniform rules across the EU, which can stimulate the growth of new competitors.
