Personal Improvement Project Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Introduction to the Problem

Our cognition plays a very dramatic and important role in our lives. Emotion is a slippery concept and losing your temper, emotions and getting angry at small things has become very common these days. People who are frustrated by some ongoing issues in their lives get angry, frustrated easily irrespective of knowing the issue deeply and try to blame others always. There can be many issues that lead a person towards anger, make them stressed or create anxiousness and result in being stressed out that eventually hurt their personal lives. Performance at work goes down, relationships get hurt; their health gets affected, and this all happens when people feed negative emotions that guide them towards destruction either personally or professionally.

Negative emotions consume a person internally, and they face a hard time keeping friends, closing deals and also don’t allow them to function normally in the society. But if there is a will there is always a way. It means no matter how bad a person is in controlling his/ her emotions, they can always search for the ways or means to overcome the negative emotions surrounding them, and they can focus on the real issues without getting stressed out. The best and the oldest method to follow, is to smile because if someone is smiling, then it's psychologically impossible for that person to get stressed out.

A bad temper leads a person nowhere but towards self-destruction. It's totally in an individual’s hand to feed a particular emotion because it all depends on that person that how much attention or focus they are giving to that feeling which is leading them towards stress. Controlling and avoiding is totally in their hands.

Emotions at work are common and are unavoidable at work. Because leaving the feelings at the door, seems unrealistic in today's world.  There can be many causes of emotions at the workplace, for example, co-workers can snub, harm or bring frustration for their colleagues. Feelings of individuals can be hurt by the managers or the leaders in the organization that may lead to negative outcomes. The unreasonable demands of the top management, inflexible practices, changes which are poorly managed, high and unachievable expectations, policies not favoring the employees, etc. can bring discomfort in motivating the employees and will create an emotional disturbance that will eventually harm their performance.

Besides a person's professional life there is a personal life that they manage and there are issues that also need to be taken care of but with such practices at workplaces all they end up with stressful situations and emotional disturbance, thus lowering down in ranks in regard of professional and personal lives.

Emotions at work are unavoidable, but if they are not handled properly may lead towards disturbing your career path.

MACRO MODEL SECTION

The issues and reasons that are leading me towards the problem are many, but the core ones are listed below:

•    Facing hard time in compromising and not giving a second thought to the other person's point of view as compromising bring the daunting feelings of disappointment and weakness.

•    Trouble in admitting other emotions like fear, shame and guilt and using anger as the only option and believe that the emotions mentioned above are not associated with my personality.

•    Being egoistic and taking disagreement as a personal challenge and not accepting different views and opinions.

•    Over generalizing the situations and believing that the due appreciation is not being served.

•    Having a rigid vision, which if not met it leads to anger.

•    Making assumptions about how people are thinking towards me and jumping towards conclusions early without any proven facts......................
